My Stroke, backstory
At 75 I have angina, high blood pressure and have fallen a few times indoors, in my garden and in my garage/workshop.
On the day of my stroke I fell four times. My neighbour answered my call for help three times. The fourth fall resulted in me calling 999 and paramedics whisking me off to the Stroke Unit at the local hospital.
The day of the stroke was an everyday occurrence. I went to the kitchen to make lunch and a cuppa. I was in hospital for two weeks and transferred to a stroke rehab ward at another hospital.
After two weeks of rehab I was discharged home. I received a care package for a couple of weeks where carers called in and made me a cuppa, washed up and helped move washing from the machine to the airing rack.
I was doing everything else by myself: washing myself, dressing myself, toilet stuff myself and generally looking after myself. I cancelled the care package after a few weeks and live independently now.
